What material are cosmetic plastic hoses usually made of?

Cosmetic plastic hoses are generally made of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other materials. These materials have different characteristics, such as PE has good flexibility and chemical resistance, PP has high hardness and heat resistance, and PVC has non-flammable, high strength, weather resistance and excellent geometric stability. In practical use, these materials may have various additives added as needed to improve their performance.


PVC is very resistant to oxidants, reducing agents and strong acids. However, it can be corroded by concentrated oxidizing acids, such as concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid, etc., and should not be in contact with aromatics and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

A. Hygiene of plastic hose materials for cosmetics


First of all, the materials used should meet the relevant health standards, and harmful substances such as heavy metals and fluorescent agents should be controlled within the prescribed range. For example, for hoses exported to the United States, polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) should comply with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standard 21 CFR 117.1520.


B. Barrier properties of plastic hose materials for cosmetics


If the contents of the packaging of the daily chemical company are products that are particularly sensitive to oxygen (such as some whitening cosmetics) or products with very volatile fragrances (such as essential oils or some corrosive chemicals such as oils, acids and salts), the five-layer co-extrusion tube should be selected at this time. Because the oxygen permeability of the five-layer coextruded pipe (polyethylene/bonding resin /EVOH/ bonding resin/polyethylene) is 0.2 ~ 1.2 cc·mm/m²·day·atm, while the oxygen permeability of the ordinary polyethylene single-layer pipe is 150 ~ 300 cc·mm/m²·day·atm. In a certain period of time, the weight loss of ethanol in the five-layer coextruded tube is several times lower than that in the single-layer tube. In addition, EVOH is an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer, which has excellent barrier properties and odor retention (the best effect is when the thickness is 15 to 20 microns). The double-layer tube adopts high density HDPE and low density LDPE in a certain proportion, and achieves uniform mixing effect through high speed rotation. This way can properly adjust the degree of softness and hardness of the hose, and compared with the single-layer pipe, the double-layer pipe body is thicker and better corrosion resistance.


C. Hardness of cosmetic plastic hose material


Daily chemical companies have different requirements for hose stiffness, so how to get the desired stiffness? The polyethylene commonly used in hoses are mainly low-density polyethylene, high-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene. Among them, the rigidity of high-density polyethylene is better than that of low-density polyethylene, so the required rigidity can be achieved by adjusting the ratio of high-density polyethylene to low-density polyethylene.

E. Weather resistance of cosmetic plastic hose materials
